Uzodinma Iweala is one of the greatest authors of our generation, his writings depict the very essence of literature. With an arts degree from Havard he has carved a niche for himself with his first official book “beast of no Nation”. He has undoubtedly cancelled the assumption that good literature is restricted to the past generation(Chinua Achebe, Wole Soyinka e.t.c).
The most impressive aspect of it all is his ability to buy you into his characters so easily( seen the book!). He is also a surgeon which shows how dynamic he is.

His book “Beast of no Nation” expresses the pains of war, blood shed and death. He uses a single character (Agu) to give an accurate description of war and the trials he faced, he also let’s us in on how the boy sojourns as a “child soldier”. Its a very captivating story, one of those that you’ll rather read yourself than hear from the lips of others. The book has already received recognition from notable bodies I.e. New York times, Time magazine. The book was officially released in 2005.

Starring in the movie is award winning actor Idris Alba who will be playing the role of a military officer. I remember how thrilled I was when I saw the movie “Black Diamonds” some years back; This one looks similar in many ways. Display of our western African culture and the ability to prevail are my two best parts of the story.

So if you love reading (which you should!) then you need to get your eyes on this one!
